During the Paris Air Show, multiple drone manufacturers showcased their "unmanned wingman" solutions
China Aviation News Network: According to foreign media reports on June 19th, defense giants and emerging military technology companies showcased cutting-edge drones known as "unmanned wingmen" at the Paris Air Show, which will fly alongside next-generation fighter jets and reshape the future of air combat.
The Paris Air Show is the largest aerospace event in the world. The number of UAVs on display this time has reached a record high, which also reflects the outstanding performance of UAVs in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and their growing importance.
In April last year, the US Air Force selected Andulier and General Atomics to develop the first batch of "unmanned wingmen", which are designed to fly alongside manned fighter jets and are officially known as Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA).
Anduril has provided small drones to Ukraine and made its debut at this air show, showcasing the Fury drone model. It is planned to be produced in 2027 as part of the US Air Force's CCA program. Anduril Corporation has raised $2.5 billion and will begin building a production facility in Ohio by 2025.
At the same time, General Atomics showcased the YFQ-421A drone model at this air show. Türkiye Baykar Company showed two UAVs at the exhibition for the first time - high altitude heavy transport aircraft Akinci and TB3. TB3 has foldable wings, which can take off and land on a short runway aircraft carrier.
